For all those slamming the GOP for the bailouts, was it the GOP or the Democrats who wanted them to begin with?

I'm seriously confused here. I have limited opportunities to hear news with my busy schedule these days, and this article here, a href="http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080926/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown"http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080926/ap_o…/a kinda threw me. Which party is the one who wanted the bailouts, and which party is being blasted by everybody for wanting them in the first place?
