Was I right to punish an adolescent for destroying part of my property?

A 14 year old adolescent boy threw a baseball threw my window and burned my confederate flag. I caught them and tackled them down to the grown and sat on them. I picked a switch off of a tree and smacked their backside with it. Their shorts were thin material so they didn't offer much protection. I gave them about 100 smacks. After about 5 smacks they were crying and begging me to stop. I stopped when they promised to pay for the broken window and get me a new confederate flag. Was my punishment fair?
