Was yahoo sports yst steve kerr a "gritty" player like bruce bowen, or a finesse player like rip hamilton?

in his sports columns with larry biel, steve and larry chuckle at how "nasty" a player steve kerr used to be. i can't tell if its total sarcasm and i didn't follow pro basketball at that time. all i (think i) know about steve kerr is that he was a 2 guard that sat in the corner on offense and drained 3 pointers when defenders left him open to help on jordan's dribble . but what of his defense? was kerr a defensive elbow factory, accussed of playing dirty, or are kerr and beil just jerking all of our chains?
