I signed a contract to have dental work done but changed heart and cancelled within 24 hours. Can they bill me?

Tried to postpone the work for 6 months to save up, but they would not consider postponing and told me I would have to pay the cost of everything (the work is not done yet). They did take molds of my mouth but the rest of the appointment was a "free consultation".
